Description
About Walkerbouts
Walkerbouts Inn is located in the historic village of Rhodes in the Barkly East district in the North Eastern Cape of South Africa . Originally, it was a family dwelling that was later used as a hostel for pupils at the school in the village but which was closed in 1975. More recently, it was used by the skiing fraternity and as the base station for the establishment of the Tiffindell Ski Resort until 1995. Thereafter, Walkerbouts was established in 1996 and the structure was extended and completely renovated by 1999.
It has a sunny lounge and main dining-room, cosy pub complete with wood-fired pizza oven and six en-suite bedrooms. Four of the bedrooms have showers, one has a shower/bath combination and one has a bath only. All beds are fitted with duvets as well as electric blankets to ward off the winter chill. The dining room and lounge are heated by an open fire-place as well as an anthracite heater. The cosy pub, whose walls could tell many stories, also has a wood-fired pizza oven that provides an alternative and adds another dimension to the wholesome country fare served in the dining room. More specialised victuals such as vegetarian meals can be prepared by prior arrangement. An extensive vegetable garden together with a small tunnel complete with underground heating, provide a source of garden fresh vegetables and herbs for the kitchen.
Fine Country Cuisine and hospitality in the best traditions of the "platteland" make it a home-from home to which innumerable guests return year after year.
