AMANZI’S TOP 5 THINGS TO DO IN KNYSNA AND THE GARDEN ROUTE

You will never be short of things to do in this magical part of the world. Knysna and its surrounds offer a variety of sailing and ferry cruises, adrenalin sports, water sports, hiking trails and not to forget our fabulous golf courses. Just let us know what activity takes your fancy and we’ll gladly make reservations for you. The following are our favourite things to do in the Garden Route when you don’t have time to do it all:

SPRING TIDE CHARTERS – Knysna (10 min drive from Amanzi Lodge)
Experience the thrill of sailing out to sea on the beautiful Outeniqua, a 50 foot yacht operated by Spring Tide Charters. What better way to enjoy Knysna than to spend an afternoon sailing her waters and then, as the sun sets behind the Knysna Heads, settling down to indulge in a bottle of bubbly and fresh Knysna Oysters. They’ll spoil you rotten!

THE FEATHERBED NATURE RESERVE – Knysna (10min drive from Amanzi Lodge)
Take a ferry ride from town to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, a privately owned reserve on the Western headland. Experienced guides will drive you to the top of the Western Head where the views are magnificent. From there you can take a slow and very scenic walk down through indigenous vegetation and along the edge of the lagoon. You will tuck into a delicious buffet lunch before heading back into town.

MONKEYLAND - Plettenberg Bay – (40 minutes drive from Amanzi Lodge)
Walk amongst the monkeys and lemurs of Monkeyland, a primate sanctuary just a short drive from Plettenberg Bay. The sanctuary is home to a number of monkeys that have been mistreated in various zoos and pet shops around the world. At monkeyland they roam freely amongst thick indigenous forest, and appear to be having the time of their lives. Experienced guides walk you through their new home.

WHALE WATCHING - Knysna (10 min from Amanzi Lodge) and Plettenberg Bay (35 min from Amanzi Lodge)
OCEAN SAFARIS and OCEAN BLUE ADVENTURES both offer wonderful whale and dolphin watching excursions. Going out to sea in search of marine life is an awesome experience made all the more special when you encounter a school of dolphins or a breaching Humpback whale. Seals, dolphins and Bryde’s whales frequent our coast all year round, but the best time to spot Southern Rights, Humpbacks, and even the occasional Orca, is between June and October.

THE WORLD’S HIGHEST BUNGY JUMP (Bloukrans Bridge – 45 minute drive from Amanzi Lodge)
Yes folks, this really is the best adrenalin rush you’ll ever experience! 216 meters high - Not for the faint hearted.

HIKING – (Thousands of trails all over the Garden Route)
There are trails for all fitness types, all energy levels and all ages. Hike in the forest, walk along the coastline, hike alongside gorges, rivers and coastal fynbos. Climb mountains, scale rocks or go for a romantic stroll along the beach. We highly recommend you spend a day in the great outdoors at one of the thousands of trails in the area – it will sooth your soul!
