Description
Viljee and Hanlie Keller are the fourth generation on Mooiplaas and welcome you to Mooiplaas.
Mooiplaas farm was bought in the early 1890's by our Great Great Grandfather Mr PJ Keller. It was originally called "Steyldrift" and was divided into four farms and given to his four surviving children. The surname "Keller" means Cellar Master. The patriarch of the Keller family was Josephis Johannes Anthonie Keller, born on 1 October 1823. He married Maria Magdalena Nortier, born on 17 September 1828.
The main farming activities were sheep, cattle, ostrich and maize. A speciality in 1928 was watermelons. Seeds were imported from America and Mr PJ Keller cultivated the first Clondike watermelons. This sweet, juicy fruit is still a summertime favourite.
Today the 4th and 5th generation of Kellers farm on "Mooiplaas" and the farm "Die Denne". They specialise in ostrich, maize and alfalfa. The farms produce 16 000 chicks per year and provide 4000 adult birds to the market.
